Vision Wellness and Preventive Services
Community outreach programs dedicated to the prevention of vision loss for those who lack access to professional eye care services through traditional channels.
Project Eye Care
Free eye examinations for adults are provided at community health centers conveniently located in the downtown Rochester area. Local eye doctors volunteer their time to provide the eye examinations while optical stores in the area donate the eyeglasses.
Services Provided:
- Free comprehensive eye examinations
- Prescriptions for eyeglasses
- Vouchers for free eyeglasses
- Referrals for diagnostic treatment and follow-up care
- Extensive case management to ensure follow-up compliance
- Patient advocacy through community links
- Eye health education
- Bilingual services
To be eligible for Project Eye Care you must:
- Have no medical insurance
- Have applied for Medicaid or Family Health Plus and been denied for income purposes
- Have not had an eye exam in two years
- Meet income guidelines and criteria
Vision Care for Kids
In collaboration with the Rochester City School District and ABVI-Goodwill, free eye examinations and glasses are provided for children
who have no medical insurance. Eye exams are provided by local volunteer eye doctors and eyeglasses are donated by ABVI-Goodwill.
To be eligible for Vision Care for Kids a child must:
- Have vision of 20/40 or worse
- Have no medical insurance
- Meet family income guidelines
