REPRESENTATIVE ERIC MASSA VISITS ABVI-GOODWILL;
TOURS FACILITY AND MEETS EMPLOYEES

Rochester, NY (August 13) — The Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ABVI)-Goodwill of Greater Rochester today hosted a visit and tour of its facilities by the Honorable Eric J.J. Massa.

Representative Massa (NY-29) toured the agency’s manufacturing division, vision rehabilitation center and call center operations, along with meeting employees working in those areas who are blind or visually impaired.  As a first-term Congressman, Rep. Massa enjoyed a first-hand look at the depth and breadth of programs, services and employment opportunities provided by ABVI-Goodwill to people who are blind or visually impaired, including many constituents in the 29th Congressional District.

“I wish that everybody in the federal government could see what I had the chance to see,” Rep. Massa said in a Democrat and Chronicle interview.  “I was very inspired.”

In addition to the tour, ABVI-Goodwill had the opportunity to speak with the Congressman about several issues of importance to the future of the agency, including the need for vision rehabilitation and low vision services to be included in any discussion of national health care reform, and his continued support for the National Calling for 2-1-1 Act (S.211 / H.R. 211) to secure federal support and funding for 2-1-1 programs in Rochester and across the country.

“The agency is not looking for money,” Rep. Massa told the D & C.  “They’re looking for an opportunity to compete. They can compete. They can stand tall against any competitor.”
